GFAI Industry Issues Forum

Join us for a day of committee planning and interactive discussions designed to educate and inform members of the pressing issues affecting the grain handling and feed industries.

Discussion sessions will introduce participants to a specific issue and allow time for brief discussion and brainstorming potential solutions and ideas to move our industry forward.

The content is created around GFAI Committees and Industry Actions groups, but we encourage all members to attend to share concerns, ideas and take part in these important discussions.

  1. 8:45 – 9:10am          How Minimum Wage Laws Will Affect Your Business
    In this session, specialists from AAIM Employers Association will detail changes to the minimum wage law and demonstrate various scenarios to explain the laws’ effects on employers. In small groups, we will discuss the steps you can take or will take to prepare for this increase to the minimum wage.

  2. 9:15 – 10:00 am       Managing the Effects of the Lock and Dam Closures
    In 2020, Illinois will experience multiple lock and dam closures for repairs that are imperative to the transportation system. Kirby Wagner will join us to explain these closures and we’ll discuss how the industry can best prepare for this disruption to the river system.

  1. 10:20 – 10:55 a.m.  Top 10 Priorities to Stay in OSHA/EPA Compliance
    The regulatory environment can be complicated and difficult to navigate. This session will identify the top OSHA/EPA priorities and discuss best practices for meeting and maintaining compliance standards.

  2. 11:00 – 11:35am     Illinois Grain Code – What would you change?
    The industry continues to change, but has the statute which regulates us kept up? There is a general fear of introducing changes to the Grain Code but when the time comes to open it up, we need to be prepared with ideas to update the Code. Several specific areas of the Code will be reviewed allowing you time to discuss and prioritize changes you believe should be implemented.

  1. 12:45 – 1:20 p.m.   Using Technology to Keep Up with Customer Demands
    People want technology and seek ways to integrate it into their daily lives. Learn about the technology farmers would like implemented at grain handling facilities and discuss how this could drive change and affect loyalty, efficiency and the bottom line.

  2. 1:25 – 2:00 p.m.       Passing the Torch
    Planning for succession prepares a company for a management or employee transition with minimal interruption. Hear a retiring general manager explain what he did to make a smooth hand-off to his replacement as well as the new general manager’s expectations. Whether it be a manager or other key employee, participants will discuss what documents, information and tools you need for smooth succession.
